Interview Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkish President / FRANCE 24 (English) by FRANCE24 published on 2017-07-05T17:36:16Z Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is today the guest of Exclusive on France 24. This interview, recorded this afternoon in Ankara, will be broadcast today on France 24 three channels (in English, in French and Arabic) at 11:30pm*. In an exclusive interview with France 24, Turkey's president lashed out at Germany for preventing him to address the Turkish community and bring his bodyguards during the upcoming G 20 meeting in Hamburg this week. He said he had no regrets about comparing Germany's attitude to nazi methods, adding that Europe was unfair in its criticism of Turkey. He rejected western claims that he was using the failed coup to carry out a witch hunt against dissenting voices. He said he would allow the ongoing "justice march" from Ankara to Istanbul by the main opposition if there was no violence. He warned that turkey was ready to intervene militarily in northern Syria in order to ward off the Syrian Kurdish forces there. He lamented that the US was supporting and arming those forces which turkey considers as a terrorist organization. He added that he was confident that a de-escalation zone could soon be established in northern Syria in which Russian and Turkish troops would be on the ground. On the Qatar crisis, he said the demands made by Saudi Arabia and its allies were unacceptable but left open the possibility that the Turkish military base in Qatar could be withdrawn if the Qatari authorities requested it. He said he was opposed to the Iraqi Kurdistan government decision to hold an independence referendum on September 25, arguing that it would imperil the territorial integrity of Iraq.
