CEO & Co-Founder, The Whisper Group

When we decided to set up an office in Cardiff – we wanted to do it properly, a genuine Nations hub. No pop up, no brass plaque and not just two execs farming things out from an office. Whisper chose Wales and Cardiff for three reasons: 👊🏽 The incredible talent pool 🏉 The passion for sport in the city 😊 The opportunity to impact change ❤️ Plus I bloody love the Welsh I do! Fast forward to today and our Cardiff office is thriving. We’ve built a team of 29 on staff jobs, including four trainees who are part of the Whisper Academy. We’ve moved offices due to growth four times. The team works with WRU - Welsh Rugby Union, S4C, The British & Irish Lions, BBC and many more, covering a variety of sport from the Women’s six 6N to PFL and the Rugby World Cup. The team have gone beyond live sport and digital, now adding a healthy award-winning docs team too. They bagged a Welsh RTS award this month for best documentary. Massive congratulations. Last month we hosted a fourth ‘Get Involved’ event. Held in Cardiff, it was an opportunity to meet underrepresented talent and, in this case, disabled talent. From the 30 who joined us in Cardiff and online we’ll be offering *15* roles across our production slate, which makes me incredibly happy. All of this change has happened at the wonderful Tramshed Tech, powered by the incredible Louise Harris. A non-stop champion of getting it done. And now our Welsh investment is about to be taken to another level. We’re helping deliver a remote hub facility to accelerate our sustainability commitment and this summer will produce some of sport’s biggest moments from Cardiff. Alongside our Whisper Cymru MD Carys Owens, the driving force, this week we hosted the Welsh First Minister and Channel 4 CEO Alex Mahon. Outlining our vision for growth and partnership in the region. We’ve made an impact in Wales already, through investment, jobs, pushing diversity and inclusion and being creative. This was in the years coming out of COVID and the aim is to do more. We’re getting things done and I love it. With the support of Channel 4 and TramShed, we’re looking to increase our impact. Many hands and minds make light work!!! Thanks to our superstar team who came to our 2024 Whisper Day! This year we were at the F1® Arcade in St. Paul’s, which was amazing. It was a great opportunity to reflect positively on the year gone by and to come together ahead of an incredible summer of sport. We have an exciting year ahead, delivering a range of ambitious and creative multi-genre content for all our partners. It was so good to see the team coming together - and to see some healthy competition. EA Sports F1 might have a new athlete in Geoff Riding... Thanks to Jamil Qureshi, David Abraham, Jake Humphrey and everyone at the Arcade! #MakeItHappen #F1 #WeAreWhisper

The British & Irish Lions + Whisper = LIONS PRODUCTIONS! We've partnered with The British & Irish Lions to create LIONS PRODUCTIONS, ahead of the 2025 Tour to Australia.   The partnership will see Lions Productions produce the documentary for the 2025 Tour as well as all in-house content production and exclusive behind-the-scenes content, including for the newly formed Lions Women’s Team.   The formation of Lions Productions formalises a partnership which, for the 2021 Tour, delivered the Emmy-nominated all-access documentary Two Sides. This built on a heritage of iconic British & Irish Lions Tour documentaries and also told the story from within the South African camp for the first time.   This longer-term agreement will mean that, as in 2021, Whisper will film all in-camp content incorporating broadcast, highlight packages and official digital content.   As well as being the exclusive provider of Lions content, Lions Productions will also act as the in-Tour production company for The British & Irish Lions partners, who together with the Lions and Whisper are focused on leveraging the reach and appeal of the Tour through ambitious and creative storytelling.   Whisper has been a multi-year production partner for World Rugby and produced the Front Row Daily Show for the All Blacks’ streaming platform NZR+ during the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Whisper Cymru produced the Rugby World Cup for S4C, and it is production partner for the WRU - Welsh Rugby Union as well as producing the Women’s Six Nations for the BBC.   Ben Calveley, CEO, British & Irish Lions said, “We are delighted to announce the formation of Lions Productions with Whisper which presents a milestone moment for The British & Irish Lions. For the first time the Lions now has an exclusive, in-house content offering which will allow us to bring fans premium and engaging content throughout our Tour cycle. We know how important connecting with our fans is and Lions Productions will allow us to do so like never before as well as providing greater value for our partners.”   Carys Owens, Managing Director, Whisper Cymru: “Delivering sport as entertainment and telling great stories is what we do at Whisper, so to join forces with a formidable sporting brand like The British & Irish Lions and its partners, who are bursting with stories waiting to be told, is beyond exciting. Our last partnership brought great success and we will once again draw on the expertise of our documentary, digital, entertainment and broadcast teams to produce exciting content for this groundbreaking agreement.” #MakeItHappen #Partnership #EntertainmentIsEverything #WeAreWhisper #Rugby #Production

We ❤️ women’s sport - and so do many of you! Over 2M watched our Live Women’s Sport productions this weekend on the BBC, including a 30 min crossover on Sunday when we were on BBC One and BBC Two simultaneously. Coverage included Scotland v England in the Women’s Six Nations on Saturday and two Women's FA Cup Semi Finals on Sunday. We were also producing Formula E in Italy (host) and Boxing in London for Channel 5. We have some great BTS content coming from some of the women involved in the productions just gone. There was more than one star at the live boxing in York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday!🥊⭐. Here's some great BTS, which shows one of our camera operators in action. Tené Forrester joined us as a Camera Assistant via the amazing MAMA Youth Project. He's gained experience and moved up the ranks and on Friday he delivered once again as a live camera operator, delivering as part of our production team with Channel 5. Another superstar Izzy Prueitt from our Post team put this clip together for us today at short notice. Thanks Tené Forrester and Izzy! Here’s Tene's story: https://lnkd.in/epJADaHK #MakeItHappen #WeAreWhisper #EntertainmentIsEverything #Boxing
