Friday Cable Ratings: 'Gold Rush' Wins Again + 'Smackdown,' 'Sanctuary,' 'For Better or Worse' & More

December 12th, 2011

Gold Rush again led Friday cable down a tenth vs last week to  a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating.

Tyler Perry's 'For Better Or Worse' was steady in one of its episodes and up a tenth in the other with 0.9 and 1.0 adults 18-49 ratings respectively.

Flying Wild Alaska was down a tenth vs. last week with a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating.

Friday Night Smackdown scored a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating and Sanctuary a 0.4 rating (comparisons to last Friday not valid since last Friday was repeats of special Tuesday night airings).

We only receive the top 100 cable shows for adults 25-54 for the whole day from our primary source. If you don’t see an original episode of a show here, it’s because it wasn’t in the top 100. I attempt to filter out repeats, kids shows, and most non-primetime shows. Will add extras that I see later.

    At least TNT doesn’t suck on Friday. Funny.

  3. Rocky89

    WOO HOO! Now that’s what I’m talking about. :)

    GO Sanctuary. ;)

  4. Kyle T

    Yes! Good rebound by sanctuary. Last couple of episodes have been great.

  5. Jimbo

    Where are the ‘Boss’ Season Finale numbers?

    COME ON!!!!!!

  6. NickelodeonRocks

    @disney rocks Your comment didn’t make any sense.

    Anyway, Ant Farm dropped in the ratings! Yay! Hopefully that gets the boot, even though it was renewed. :) Go Nick!! Hopefully, the new iCarly movie will boost nicks ratings (it’s airing on New Years EVE) Plus the new iCarly EP! Plus the Fairly odd parents series finale and the new Victorious episode!! Nick is on a ROLL! :D

  7. The End

    @Rocky89

    Sanctuary was just playing dead :P

    Seriosly I’ve said this enough times but this series will get a Season 5 in my honest opinion.

    No network puts 12 months worth of previews all in one advertisement(See Gateworld discussion) just because you haven’t seen Sanctuary there, doesn’t mean anything, at all.

  8. The Mighty Cringe

    Jessie continues to show it’s AWESOMENESS on Fri Nights!!!

  9. Kev

    So are these bad or good #s for AMW on lifetime??

  10. “Where are the ‘Boss’ Season Finale numbers?

    COME ON!!!!!!”

    Come on, what?

    Boss ratings aren’t in the top 100 shows for the day among adults 25-54, they never are, which is what we get from our primary source. Our secondary source provides complete primetime ratings for a variety of cable networks, but not Starz. We only, as always, see Boss ratings when they arrive from some special source like a Starz press release.

  11. Geraint (UK)

    Glad to see Sanctuary total viewers up to 1.505 highest since Season 3 Episode 5 :)

  12. One

    Once again, I wonder whether or not Discovery might consider moving Gold Rush.

  13. Rocky89

    @The End

    To be honest, I wasn’t expecting such a high uptick, but I’m very glad to see that it was as well as it was. :) I’m ALWAYS nervous when Sanctuary ratings come in, even back in S1, but when I see this, I feel proud. I mean, I’m always proud but… you know what I mean. :p

    *Happy for Sanctuary*

  14. Idol Rules

    Disney is still up. Jessie is just dominating. It goes up 1 million more than Ant Farm. Amazing. I wanna see Ant Farm back up in the highs.

  15. Columbo

    For a show that’s taped on Tuesday (spoilers online posted instantaneously), I’m pretty amazed at Smackdown’s numbers.

  16. The End

    @Rocky89

    I think the same way about the show, but if anything if it was going to be cancelled by now it would of been already. All that’s really left now is the negotiations. Should these go well and the show get funding you’re almost 100 percent going to get a 5th/Final Season.

    This doesn’t feel like the end to me(No pun intended, see username), I think Sanctuary has a very good chance.

    @Columbo

    Not every WWE fan bothers to check for spoilers, infact I think most people would rather watch the events on TV rather than spoil themselves and miss out on 2 hours of wrestling every friday, typically a day where people are done with school or work for the week and want to relax a little

  17. Rob

    So Boss does so badly even it’s own network doesn’t want to publicize the numbers. Understandable given they failed to renew two other shows which performed way better.

  18. Nick

    Boss (Starz)
    -10 PM: 0.505 million viewers, 0.14 A18-49
    -11 PM: 0.194 million viewers, 0.06 A18-49

    For reference, it combined for 0.631 million viewers at 10 and 11 last week so this week was up 11%. More notable is the first airing was up 43% in viewers from last week’s. It was the 3rd highest rated telecast of the season (premiere and 11/25 airing came in 1st and 2nd).

  19. Nick the Greek

    Encore’s The Take is fabulous. The 4 Part series is on Fridays at 9:00. Two episodes left. It is not making th grid but if you have the time make sure to catch all the episodes on VOD.

  20. Nick

    In case you’re interested:

    The Take (Encore, 9 PM)
    -12/2: 0.180 million viewers, 0.05 A18-49
    -12/9: 0.152 million viewers, 0.02 A18-49

    And a couple of major Sunday premieres. Bag of Bones fared quite well, while Luck dropped a good deal from Boardwalk Empire:

    Bag of Bones (A&E, 9 PM)
    -3.372 million viewers
    -1.15 A18-49

    Luck (HBO, 10 PM)
    -1.143 million viewers (-62% from Boardwalk Empire)
    -0.36 A18-49 (-72%)
