24 Movie Talks Heat Up (Again): Is Jack Finally Headed to the Big Screen?

Has the 24 movie’s time finally come?

TVLine has learned exclusively that talks to bring Jack Bauer to the big screen have quietly gathered steam in recent weeks.

According to sources, Imagine Entertainment — perhaps buoyed by the positive buzz generated by Fox’s 24: Live Another Day revival — is kicking around a new feature idea. Imagine Chairman Brian Grazer is said to be particularly keen on the pitch, which has yet to be brought to 20th Century Fox.

A 20th rep declined to comment.

Last winter, while promoting 24: LAD, Kiefer Sutherland maintained that the 24 movie still had a (faint) pulse. “The film’s an ongoing situation,” he said. “There’s always an opportunity to do that.”

The current movie chatter is complicated somewhat by the fact that Fox, the television network, will likely want to mount another 24 miniseries in the near future.

“I loved this year’s season of 24,” Fox Networks Group Chairman CEO Peter Rice said in July. “I’ve always been a fan. We haven’t had a specific conversation about it coming back yet, but I’m sure we will in the future. It’s a wonderful franchise. When you look at the show itself, it has many more stories to tell. I think we need to sit down and talk to the creators.”

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

I’d rather see more seasons of the tv show than a movie

  2. Dante says:

Yea I would rather see a nice 12 episodes every other year versus a movie

    • Marilyn says:

Ah yes..once a year would be wonderful. I think the 24 powers at be do not fully realize how we suffer from the dry spells. The least they can do is give us what we crave. Once a year is not asking too much.

      • Liz says:

        Totally agree

        • cdhaskell says:

I must agree with Marilyn. I am saving my money to buy the complete series and the 24 special for my collection. I wanted to see how Jack Bauer will escape from his prison. I wanted to see another season of the series. The series will allow the writer developed the individual character.

  3. I’d rather see another 12 hour season than a 2 hour movie. But the greedy 24 fan in me would love both.

  4. Sheldon W. says:

Personally, I’d rather see Kate take over from Jack Bauer in a new summer season of the show.

    • Marilyn says:

Yes, Kate was fabulous…I wish I could be like Kate, but I’m 61 years old, so I don’t think that’s possible. I think we still need Jack though. But, if Kiefer Sutherland wasn’t available, Kate could certainly carry the show.

    • Julie says:

Yes…eventually. But we need at least one more Jack season. Kate, Chloe etc need to go break Jack out of the Russian prison.

  5. Phantom says:

I would love another series also……but a movie would be great also. I wouldn’t complain.

  6. Marilyn says:

Another TV series is much preferable, IMHO. I think it would be near impossible to cram a decent story into a 2 hour movie format. We certainly need Jack back. I would like to see a new TV miniseries start with Kate and Chloe busting Jack out of the Gulag. Then get revenge on the Benjamin Bratt character for starters, and since most of the rest of the bad guys are deceased, a whole new world crisis is needed. I will leave that to the writers.

    • RichieS says:

My take would be a rebel group inside Russia overtakes a detente conference involving indispensable U.S.and Russian leaders and holds them hostage with a small time frame before assassinations commence. The Russians then offer a deal with Bauer to free them in return for his own freedom. Bauer counters that he will “But I need three other people…Kate, Chloe, and Almeida.

    • John C says:

In the last scene of the movie Jack got aboard the helicopter with a pilot and one FSB/KGB bad guy. He could snap both their necks and fly the copter to safety, if that was needed to start as an escape point. They didn’t even handcuff him or tie his hands, that’s like playing Russian roulette with all the chambers loaded and going first.

  7. Melisa says:

    BRING BACK JACK PERIOD

  8. Alicia Gray says:

I personally rather see a Sherlock type situation.

  9. Michelle says:

I would rather see another 12 episode season of 24 than a movie. I’ve always thought if they made a movie of the show they would probably end it by killing off Jack & i don’t want to see that happen. Jack Bauer still has a few good years left in him yet :)

  10. Jenny says:

Jack, Chloe, Kate, and Belcheck have to be in it!

  11. Mary Maloney says:

Much prefer the tv show over a movie. So happy to hear more will be coming!

  12. That would be awesome!!

  13. alistaircrane says:

I’ve been waiting a long time for the movie. I hope we finally get it!

    • alistaircrane says:

They’ve talked about doing a 2-hour representation of a 24-hour day, which I think would be really cool. We’ve had 8.5 seasons in the real time format. Time to switch it up so the movie will be its own unique thing!

  14. cdhaskell says:

I hope and pray that the rumor are real and that there will be a 24 the movie. I know that it will be a hit.

  15. Ann says:

What can I say. I will definitely go see the movie and I also like to see more TV series.

  16. Brad C. says:

Bring Jack back: any place – anytime; any way…however, I would prefer the 12-hour miniseries over a 2 hour movie.

  17. Julie says:

No movie! We need another 12 ep season! LAD was 24 at its best. Writing, acting, excitement, etc. firing on all cylinders without all of the filler of a 24 ep season. Fox, please bring back LAD!

  18. Ellen S. says:

I’ll help talk to the creators if it gets a movie made! What would Jack do? He wouldn’t waste time!!! He’d DO IT!!!

    • cdhaskell says:

I hope that the writer will tie up all the loose end from the mini-series.I hope that the movie will take place in Russia. I know that the movie will be great and the DVD will be a hit.

  19. Tran says:

A 24 movie may very well be happening but in my opinion that if Fox is giving the green light to do another 24 miniseries, it should be its last and we will see Jack Bauer in Moscow where Live Another Day left off and we really hope that Jack does indeed have a “happy ending”.

    • Wyngate3 says:

Jack will NEVER have a “happy ending.” That’s the whole premise of his hero character-save the world, get screwed and lose everything. Well, almost everything. Killing off Audrey was a really bad idea. It would have been something for him to hold onto until he “lives another day>’

  20. Deesal marks says:

Jack and Chloe need to become and item and Kim needs to come back as well

  21. Marc says:

Redemption worked using the format of two hours in real time. After a feature film, another 12-episode miniseries could follow in a couple of years. I always thought the Star Trek franchise would have benefited from that schedule. They feed one another rather than over-saturate the market.

  22. Rena Moretti says:

Of course, when you bring back a TV show and it doesn’t do well, the first thing you think, is “let do it as a movie”…

    • JC says:

Well that’s not what happened here. It did do well.

      • Jenny says:

24: Live Another Day averaged over 10 million viewers across all platforms. 10 million movie tickets sold would translate to a pretty decent box office haul. Plus you might get additional people seeing the film who don’t normally watch the show.

        • cdhaskell says:

More people will watch the series while going to the movie will cost a lot of money for the average family. It is no wonder that DVD is doing great for the average family. I wish that there is another season of 24 where Jack Bauer will escape from his latest prison.

  23. i would love to see that movie because i loved the show.

  24. The MAC says:

    #sixminiseriesandamovie.

  25. cdhaskell says:

I will believe it when the film debut in the theater. I still wanted to see another season of 24 where Jack Bauer manage to escape from his prison and most of the loose end will be tie up.

  26. Linda Guyse says:

Movie or tv mini movie …..Jack I’m there!

  27. Riley_H says:

I would like to see a 2 hour movie where with Jack gets rescued or he breaks out of Russia which could hopefully set the tone for it to go back to the real time aspect of the series

  28. I’m all for the movie. If they could do an interim piece like Redemption, then a movie could work along the same lines…like a big budget preface to the next miniseries. I think Jack Bauer can carry a big movie with effortess ease. Fox Movies just needs to grow a pair.

  29. Faye says:

if it is an either or situation, I would go with the series vs the movie..but a 12 episode series as this year and with the same quality. I like the idea of 24 on the big screen though.

  30. “24”…it helps me breathe through the utter madness I feel about what’s going on in this world, urging Jack to do what I feel so many of us wish we could get out there and do to make a difference in this war-torn world!
