The International Press Academy announced the 23rd Satellite Awards winners with “Roma” emerging the biggest one with four wins. However, it wasn’t the only big winner. “If Beale Street Could Talk” still spoke volumes by winning three awards. It won Best Motion Picture (Drama), Supporting Actress for Regina King, and Adapted Screenplay for Barry Jenkins.
Meanwhile, “A Star Is Born” saw its star shine pretty bright. The musical drama won Best Motion Picture (Comedy Or Musical), Best Cinematography, and Best Song. Also, “BlacKkKlansman” took home Best Independent Motion Picture. Despite it being its only win, it’s a significant one.
In addition, there were some idiosyncratic choices to be found. For instance, Willem Dafoe won Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama. This was a slight surprise since “At Eternity’s Gate” hasn’t generated much buzz despite Dafoe having precursor support. But Glenn Close’s Oscar hopes remain alive. The overdue actress managed to win Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama for “The Wife.”
As for television wins, “Homecoming” and “The Assassination Of Gianni Versace” won big. However, much like with the film awards, there was still wealth being spread.
