Saturday Mash Up is produced on behalf of the BBC by BBC Children’s Productions Ltd (“CPL”) which is a BBC Studios company.


BBC Children’s Productions Ltd (“CPL”) is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal information and the personal information of your child. It is important that you read this notice so that you are aware of how and why we are using your information and your child’s information, and the information of any child who is nominated. This privacy notice describes how we collect and use personal information during and after your relationship with us, in accordance with data protection law.


Why are we collecting your personal information?

CPL will use the information you provide to us via email for the purposes of developing, producing and broadcasting Saturday Mash-Up.


What information are we collecting?

When you submit an application form, CPL will collect and process the following personal information:

• Name of the child making the nomination (the “nominator”)
• The name and contact details of the nominator’s parent/guardian
• Name, age and nearest town of child being nominated (the “nominee”).
• Reasons for the nomination

If we decide to take forward the nomination, we will contact you and ask you to pass our details to the parent/guardian of the nominee, so that they can get in touch with us if they would like their child to participate in the programme.

Who is the Data Controller?

CPL is the “data controller” of the information we collect about you, your child and the Nominee. This means that CPL decides what the personal information is used for, and the ways in which it is processed. We are responsible for handling personal data you provide in accordance with data protection law.

What is the lawful basis for processing?

The legal basis on which CPL processes your and your child’s personal information for the purpose set out above is our legitimate interests as a media organisation in using your personal data for journalistic, artistic and literary purposes. We will not process your personal information in a way that damages or overrides your rights.

We do not rely on consent for processing your and your child’s personal data. If your child is selected for inclusion in the programme (either as a nominator or a nominee) we will ask you to sign a contributor release form on their behalf. This form represents your consent for them to participate.

Do we share your personal information with Third Parties?

CPL will only share your personal information and your child’s personal information with CPL staff members, BBC Studios special advisors, BBC staff members and supplier organisations such as caterers or audience services contractors where required.

Retention Period
CPL will retain the personal information you provide until December 20th 2024 when casting is complete.

Once casting is complete if your child is not selected to participate, we will delete their data and yours unless we contact you to ask if you would be happy for us to keep it for a future show. Should your child be selected to participate, we intend to retain your child’s contribution in our archive in perpetuity.
