Horizons: The Sessions

Bethan Elfyn introduces profiles, sessions and live performances of some of the artists from Horizons, a scheme that supports the best new independent music from around Wales.

New music champion Bethan Elfyn introduces profiles, sessions and live performances of some of the artists from Horizons, a scheme that supports the best new independent music from around Wales.

As well as highlights from some of Horizons’ showcase gigs from earlier in the year, Bethan also profiles four of 2022’s brightest new hopes. Songwriter and rapper L E M F R E C K takes us around his hometown of Newport, explaining how life in the south Wales city has informed his music. Cerys Hafana - a harpist, pianist and composer from mid-Wales - performs on the triple harp in a 500-year-old cottage nestled in the mountains of Machynlleth. Electronic music artist Teddy Hunter takes us to her Cardiff art space to show us around her latest audio-visual installation, and Athens-born producer Minas explains how growing up in the valleys, Cardiff and the circus has made him the performer he is today.

As well as live performances from Clwb Ifor Bach and London’s Roundhouse, three of the Horizons artists get the opportunity to record at BBC’s legendary Maida Vale studios in London.
