University partners with second Ukraine institution

Coventry University is to partner with a second university in Ukraine in a bid to support it as the war with Russia continues.

It said Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA) had agreed to explore offering Coventry degree programmes.

Joint research projects between the two institutions could also take place.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was part of the Twinning Ukraine project, set up after the Russian invasion, that sees universities supporting institutions in Ukraine, Coventry University said.

It has already signed another MoU with Alfred Nobel University in Dnipro to look at sharing expertise and developing studies in the country.

A grant has been awarded to create a dual degree programme between the Dnipro and Coventry institutions.

The agreement with KNUCA could also see an online summer school, Coventry University said.

Associate pro-vice-chancellor Sir Ciarán Devane said its MoU with the Kyiv institution "seeks to support Ukraine in its efforts to rebuild for the day peace returns".

But he said it also aimed "to support the immediate efforts to ensure the economy of Ukraine remains vibrant, innovative and entrepreneurial".

"Along with our MoU with Alfred Nobel University, it is hoped this relationship will allow us to share Coventry University's expertise with leading scholars in Ukraine and collaborate with specific UK government initiatives to support the economic resilience of Ukraine," he added.
