A man has been jailed for 10 years for the rape and abuse of two young girls.

Kristofer Johnstone, from Kelloholm in Dumfriesshire, preyed on two children over 15 years from 2003 and 2018.

The 33-year-old was found guilty after a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

Johnstone will serve two consecutive five year jail-terms the attacks on each girl.

Alarming abuse

The court heard that Johnstone abused one girl in Glasgow's Knightswood area and on the Isle of Bute.

The second girl was attacked in the Maryhill area of Glasgow, and in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

He appeared via video link from prison to be sentenced by the High Court in Glasgow.

Judge Alasdair MacFadyen told him: "The evidence of sexual abuse was overwhelming, alarming and distressing.

"As a teenager and an adult, you committed serious offences against young children.

"Your actions appeared motivated by your deviant sexual desires."

Johnstone was put on the sex offenders list indefinitely and banned from contacting the victims.

His defence lawyer Patricia Baillie said he was a first offender who had been classed as a medium risk of further similar crimes.
