A major road has reopened after emergency repairs following a lorry fire in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The A34 was closed in both directions between its junctions with the A420 at Botley and A423 at Hinksey, Oxford.

It was shut for most of Saturday and overnight while National Highways recovered the lorry and carried out emergency works.

On Sunday morning, the company said the road was open in both directions and the delays had cleared.

The incident happened just before 02:00 BST on Saturday on the northbound carriageway but both sides of the road were damaged, National Highways said.

One lane on the southbound carriageway had reopened by 15:00 on Saturday, but both carriageways were closed again for the work overnight.

Thames Valley Police said the driver of the lorry had minor injuries but nobody else was hurt.
