A new swimming pool for dogs has opened in Lincoln.

Soggy Dogz in North Hykeham is now welcoming wagging tails and enthusiastic owners to its pool this week following successful taster sessions.

Hydrotherapy and sessions introducing dogs that are nervous of water or have not swam before will also be held at the pool.

The family business is run by Abi Raffles, 19, previously a dog walker, after her dad designed and built the pool for her.

It took around four weeks for the pool to be designed and built by Mr Raffles with the help of family members.

Soggy Dogz said the trial sessions went "so well", it had decided to open early with the original opening date set for 23 March.

Located in an industrial unit just off the A46, owners can get in the 24 foot long swimming pool and swim with their dogs, which is heated to around 24 degrees.

The canine swimming centre will have buoyancy aids and toys to help introduce dogs that are nervous into the water.

Hydrotherapy will also be offered for dogs that have mobility issues or ongoing injuries.

Abi Raffles, 19, who will be running Soggy Dogz, told BBC Radio Lincolnshire swimming with your dog is a "great bonding experience".

Ms Raffles also said five minutes of swimming is equivalent to a 20-minute walk for dogs.

She added: "The dogs have loved it. Sometimes it can take a bit of encouragement for them to get in and swim.

"The owners love it and everyone says they are coming back."
