Memorial to be held for 'musical legend'

A musician who passed away in November is being honoured with a memorial concert.

Dave Mauler, 56, was a Stroud-based musician and member of several bands throughout his career, including The Lost Submarines.

His four remaining band mates will be reuniting for a final time to play a tribute concert at the Prince Albert pub in Stroud this evening.

Pub licensee, Lotte Lyster, said it will be a "very emotional" night.

“Dave is very missed by his family and many friends," she added.

During the 1980s, Mr Mauler promoted bands and singers, giving them opportunities to perform at grassroots venues.

These artists include John Otway, who gained a cult following through touring, and the Senseless Things, a pop punk band that achieved two top 20 singles.

Those that knew Mr Mauler described him as "a musical legend", adding that his "unique style" made him stand out in the industry.

At a inquest into his death, the coroner at Gloucester Coroner's Court concluded that Mr Mauler died from alcohol toxicity.

Paying tribute on Instagram, external, his former bandmates from The Lost Submarines said: "Dave was a superb guitarist and member of Titanic, The Dustmites and most recently The Lost Submarines.

“A rare, sensitive and silly soul, he was loved by everyone."

The memorial gig will begin at 19:30 GMT.

Organisers said there will also be a collection for the Music Venue Trust who work to ensure the survival of grassroots venues and encourage the growth of new musicians around the country.
