Owner's heartbreak as dead cat thrown from bridge

A cat owner has branded youths "scum" after they were filmed throwing the body of her family's cat from a railway bridge in Hull.

Sarah Sharpe said she was left shocked by the footage showing Ginge being thrown on to Holderness Road.

The charity Cats Protection said the feline, which had been missing since Christmas, was likely to have been dead for six weeks before it was thrown from the bridge.

Humberside Police said it is aware of the video and confirmed it was investigating.

The BBC has chosen not to share the film due to its graphic content. It shows a boy laughing as he throws the cat from the railway line onto the street below.

An emotional, Ms Sharpe, said the situation has been so distressing that she has not been able to tell her seven-year-old daughter about Ginge's death.

She said those responsible for posting the video need to be prosecuted.

"What they did was sick, it was absolutely vile. In my eyes they are not human, they're animals.

"He was absolutely loved, not just by me and my kids, but by the neighbours too. Everyone thought he was gorgeous. How can I tell my little girl that he's never coming home?"

Insp Jo Harvey said: "We understand this will be causing distress to the local community and are carrying out enquiries to ascertain the circumstances".
