Emergency services were called to a gas leak at Portree Harbour in Skye.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent firefighters to the scene and a cordon was in place at the harbour for several hours.

Police Scotland had asked the public to avoid the area.

The harbour was reopened just after midday.

SFRS said it was alerted at about of 09:30 to reports of a strong smell of gas at Quay Street.

A spokesperson said: “Operations control mobilised one fire appliance to the scene where firefighters helped isolate external gas cylinders, evacuate nearby properties, and carry out ventilation procedures.

“The crew left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
