Electric vehicle (EV) drivers in Swindon look set to benefit from funding to install up to 600 charging points in residential areas.

Swindon Borough Council has received a grant of £2.3m from the government's Local Electric Infrastructure fund.

This means a year from now it should be easier for residents to have access to charging points for cars and vans.

Councillor Chris Watts said: "If we want to deliver on our mission to achieve net zero then we must do all we can to help local people make positive changes to the way they live their lives, which also benefit the environment.

"This scheme is an important step on that journey.”

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the council plans to put most of the charging points in residential streets.

It also wishes to speak to residents who live in areas with no charging facilities and a lack of off-street parking.
