Shindig Festival has announced that this year's event will be its last.

Held annually at Dillington Estate in Ilminster, the Somerset festival will be celebrating its 10th and final year from 23 to 26 May.

Organisers said the decision follows a "challenging landscape" for the events industry, including delayed ticket buying and a lack of government support.

“We would rather go out on our terms than have to compromise what we have created," Will Lardner, from Shindig Productions, said.

"We care too much about delivering the best parties we can and refuse to make major changes that don’t fit with our ethos just to continue."

Last year, Glastonbury Festival organiser, Emily Eavis, recommended the event as a good alternative to those who did not manage to get tickets to Glastonbury.

It was also voted ‘Best For Family Rave’ by Festival Kidz.

The festival originally began as a party for the friends of the Ghetto Funk record label, and has since grown to become a "much-loved family event".

'One to remember'

In February organisers said the event would be moving away from the Dillington Estate to a different location.

But on Monday, they said this would in fact be the last ever event.

Mr Lardner added: "As sad as we are to announce the last ever Shindig Festival, let’s make it one to remember.

"We are throwing everything we have at it and going to make this the best weekend we have ever created. We owe that to everyone.”
