Greater Anglia offers student placements at rail firm

Students have been offered the chance to take up roles with a train company so they can get an insight into how it operates.

Greater Anglia, which serves the East of England and London, said the placements would act as the third year of a university degree.

Viktorija Novikova, from the rail firm, said previous students had played "vital roles".

They carried out jobs including in HR, IT and asset management.

Greater Anglia said the scheme was run in collaboration with universities in Cambridgeshire, Essex, London and Norfolk.

Mohammad Ali, who completed his placement in marketing in 2020, secured a job as an online marketing manager after a successful post.

"For me it was good as it helped me decide that despite my banking and finance degree, that wasn't an area I wanted to pursue - marketing was," he said.

Ms Novikova said: "Our placement students have played roles in vital projects over the years, from being involved with the rollout of our new trains to assisting with marketing campaigns, and we can't wait to see what the successful candidates can bring to the table this year."

The successful students' placements will start in September. They will be paid £20,075 for the year and get free travel across the Greater Anglia network.
