Four soldiers in military vehicle injured in Devon road crash

Four soldiers have been taken to hospital after a road crash in Devon.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the single-vehicle crash, involving a military vehicle, occurred on the A361 at Sampford Peverell, near Tiverton, at about 08:45 BST on Saturday.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the Army personnel were in a Jackal tactical support vehicle during a routine military exercise in the area.

It added that three of the soldiers had since been discharged from hospital.

Police said members of the public assisted the injured personnel and the road was closed for several hours for an investigation.

Officers have appealed for witnesses.

The MoD said Devon and Cornwall Police and the Defence Safety Authority were investigating the crash.

It said: "A single vehicle accident involving four soldiers occurred on the A361 near Tiverton in Devon on Saturday 25 June.

"This incident is now part of an ongoing investigation and it would inappropriate to comment further at this time."

Jackals are armoured reconnaissance vehicles which the Army describes as a "high mobility weapons platform, with a unique air-bag suspension system allowing rapid movement across varying terrain".
