Ukraine: South Central Ambulance Service sends more medical aid

An ambulance service has sent a fifth consignment of medical equipment to field hospitals in Ukraine.

South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) said it has now sent more than 100 tonnes of supplies since the war began.

The donated goods are all out of date so cannot be used by the NHS but are still of use for treating military and civilian casualties.

Paramedic team leader, Kate Ellis said the support had "helped save many lives".

The equipment was collected by volunteers within SCAS and was dispatched from its resource centre in Nursling near Southampton, bound for two field hospitals in Ukraine.

SCAS has been supporting the hospitals since the war started following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Supplies have come from Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey and Sussex.

The trust also donated decommissioned ambulances in 2022.

Ms Ellis, who has led a team of SCAS volunteers said: "This fifth and final lorry means we have donated over 100 tonnes of supplies and equipment to the two field hospitals in Ukraine that we have been supporting since the start of the conflict.

"The donations we have been able to collect will undoubtedly have helped save many lives and ensure more soldiers and citizens injured in the conflict are able to make the best possible recovery."
