Disabled East Yorkshire dog gets new prosthetic front legs

A dog that had its front legs chopped off as punishment for chewing a pair of shoes has had a new pair of prosthetic legs fitted.

Cola was found injured in Thailand by John Dalley and his late wife Gill, who moved to the country in 2003 to start a animal charity.

Following the death of his wife, Mr Dalley returned to live in Hornsea, East Yorkshire bringing Cola with him.

The dog has brand new custom made limbs to replace a pair that had worn out.

Mr Dalley said Cola was "really a very lucky dog".

"When he's not had his legs, because something's broke and had to be repaired, he cries and howls if the others go out and he's left behind," he said.

Cola's new legs were made by a firm in Stockport.

Prosthetist Toby Carlson described making Cola's legs as "something different".

"He's such a delightful dog, it's just hard not to to be in love with him."

The couple ran the Soi Dog Foundation, which rescues and sterilises street dogs and cats in Thailand.

After Mrs Dalley died in 2017, Mr Dalley returned to the UK where he still runs the charity.

He said that the new legs, complete with paws, allows Cola to play again on Hornsea beach.

"His prosthetic legs enable him to walk and behave like any other dog when he's out for a run," Mr Dalley said.

"Without them he would not be able to do that.

"He can get around at home Kangaroo style, but he couldn't go for a walk like this."
