In pictures: Fans celebrate historic England win

Trafalgar Square roared with celebrations as England's Lionesses became European champions.

Chants of "it's coming home" blared out across the central London landmark which showed the match on big screens.

Samantha Isaac, 38, who lives in Essex, said it was "a historic moment".

"It's really important for women and girls to get this level of success and this many people here.

"I'm over the moon, they have worked so hard."

Her daughter Evie, nine, who plays football, said it was exciting.

The win meant the first major tournament title for an England team since 1966.

Before the final, they had won only two of their 27 matches against Germany but triumphed in their most recent meeting, claiming a 3-1 victory in February.

Emma Hayes, Chelsea women manager, told BBC Radio 5 Live the fans would have a huge impact on the players.

"Imagine being Georgia Stanway and thinking 'where am I going to get my energy from?'

"Well, there's 90,000 people to hep you with that. That's the biggest single difference."

Although these fans celebrated with a pint at Boxpark in Wembley, the main road up to the stadium was a no-drinking zone due to the chaos that overshadowed last year's men's final.
