Starving kittens dumped at Manchester tram stop in cardboard box

A box full of weak and starving kittens has been left abandoned at a tram stop.

Nine cats, some as young as two weeks old, were found in the Monsall area of Manchester and taken to the Independent Rescue Charity.

Volunteers said the kittens appeared to have been kept in "awful conditions" and were covered in their own faeces and urine but had since started to recover.

Ashlea Franks from the charity said whoever left them was "pure cruel".

In a post on social media, she confirmed all the kittens would be taken to the vet and were being hand-reared to support their recovery.

She said the animals, which were found on Wednesday, had undergone "an awful twenty-four hours".

The independent charity rehabilitates cats in need of treatment.
