A large stretch of a main road is closed due to flooding from a burst water main.

The disruption started early on Friday on Mead Way, near The Meads Roundabout, in Swindon, Wiltshire.

Great Western Way is closed between Mannington Roundabout and the Bruce Street Bridges towards the town centre.

A section of Mead Way towards Bridgemead is expected to stay closed while excavation work is carried out, Thames Water said.

The firm added its priority is to open a couple of roads leading into The Meads Roundabout so it can alleviate as much congestion possible, and has apologised for the disruption.

A spokesperson added: "The main has been shut in and the water is starting to drain away.

"Our engineers are starting to repair the pipe and we're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."

Drivers have been advised to avoid the area while engineers attempt to fix the problem.
