Police 'open-minded' over Aberfeldy dog walker murder motive

Detectives remain open-minded as to a possible motive for the murder of a dog walker in Perthshire.

The body of retired groundsman Brian Low, 65, was discovered in Aberfeldy on 17 February.

Mr Low's death was initially assessed as "medical-related" but an examination later found he had sustained injuries consistent with a shooting.

A murder investigation was launched six days later following a post-mortem examination.

Mr Low had worked at Edradynate Estate until his retirement in February last year.

His black Labrador was found near the path in the Pitillie area of the town where his body was discovered last month.

On Saturday, three weeks on from the murder, detectives spoke to 145 people after stopping 118 vehicles and 18 pedestrians between 06:30 and 08:30.

Det Supt Lorna Ferguson said: "We have carried out a number of additional lines of inquiry in the last few days and it's important we remain open-minded about a possible motive in this case."

She urged anyone with information which could be crucial to the case to come forward.

Det Supt Ferguson said: "Incidents like this are thankfully extremely rare and we understand the significant impact this has had on the people of Aberfeldy.

"We are confident the answer to this investigation lies within the local community. Somebody knows something."

The senior officer urged anyone who feels they may know something, even if they think it is not important, to get in touch.

She added: "It could be crucial to getting the answers we need for Brian's family."

Police Scotland also appealed to anyone who was in the area with dashcam, or CCTV footage to share it with officers.
