Guernsey residents have been urged to to "avoid" the sea and use coastal roads "cautiously" ahead of strong winds and high tides.

"Particularly high tides" are forecast to coincide with "near gale and gale force winds", Guernsey Police said.

Guernsey Met Office issued a flood warning on the west coast for Monday and Tuesday.

Perelle Coast Road will be shut during "peak times as a precaution", police said.

A high tide of about 9.7m (32ft) is forecast at 18:33 GMT on Monday, Guernsey Met Office said, combined with force six to eight south westerly to westerly winds.

A high tide of about 10m (33ft) is forecasted at 06:52 GMT on Tuesday, combined with force six to seven west to north westerly winds.

Guernsey Police has urged residents and visitors to use coastal roads "cautiously".

"Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to travel inland," the force said on Facebook.

"Drivers should take extreme care in case of waves and debris coming over sea walls."
