Chocolate: Why is chocolate getting more expensive?

You might have noticed that Easter eggs were more expensive this year, and that's because the price of chocolate is rising.

Chocolate is made from the cocoa plant, and a lot of cocoa is grown in Ivory Coast and Ghana.

Climate change has lead to hotter and drier weather in these countries, making it much harder to grow cocoa there. There's also a disease spreading on the farms which causes the cocoa plant to rot.

All of this means that there's much less cocoa around to make chocolate from. This has pushed up the price of cocoa and so the price of chocolate is rising too.
