The man 'getting mad' about Uganda's road deaths

Motorbike taxis – boda bodas – weave precariously through the traffic with two or three passengers on their back - ignoring red lights. Government vehicles routinely flout the rules of the road.

Travelling in Kampala can be eyewatering… so it’s perhaps not a surprise that more people die on Uganda’s roads than anywhere else in East Africa.

Kampala’s Mulago National Referral Hospital even has a special ward just for the drivers of boda bodas who account for the highest number of deaths.

Joe Walker – a road safety campaigner who’s walked 340km across the country to raise awareness about the subject - spoke to Africa Daily.
