Scotland name interim coaches for UAE tour as head coach hunt continues

Scotland will take an interim coaching team to the United Arab Emirates for their forthcoming tour while the hunt for a new head coach continues.

Stevie Gilmour, Moneeb Iqbal and Andy McKay take temporary charge for the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 fixtures against Canada and UAE.

Richie Berrington will captain the squad for the four matches, plus three T20 internationals against the hosts.

Interviews are ongoing for the head coach role vacated by Shane Burger.

He stepped down a year ago to join English county side Somerset, with Doug Watson taking over as interim coach to guide Scotland through their ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier campaign success.

"We're currently interviewing for the position of men's head coach, and we've been really impressed with the quality of the candidate pool and the level of interest from around the world," said Cricket Scotland head of performance Steve Snell.

"While the process is still ongoing, I'm confident we'll appoint an individual who'll make a really positive impact on cricket in Scotland.

"Ahead of concluding that process, Stevie Gilmour, Moneeb Iqbal, and Andy McKay will oversee the coaching for this tour.

"Stevie, Moneeb and Andy spent lots of time with the team last year and have that understanding of the group, which is really important just now.

"It'll be good for the players to have those three coaches with them in Dubai, and it's a fantastic opportunity for some Scottish coaches to be involved in leading the national squad."

Three players have been called into the squad for the first time. Hampshire's Scott Currie, 22, joins brother Brad in the squad, along with Sussex teenage wicketkeeper Charlie Tear, 19, and Heriots all-rounder James Dickinson.
