Michael Burgess: Warwickshire wicketkeeper commits to end of 2025 season

Warwickshire wicketkeeper Michael Burgess has signed a one-year contract extension for the 2025 season.

The 29-year-old joined the Bears in 2019 and two years later helped them complete a County Championship and Bob Willis Trophy double.

Burgess has scored 3,695 first-class runs, including five hundreds, and 1,770 in white-ball formats.

"There are good things going on here, a good vibe in the dressing room, a great spirit," he said.

"I'm confident we can build on the efforts of last year and hopefully compete a little bit higher up the Championship table this season."

Warwickshire start the 2024 campaign with a home Championship Division One game against neighbours Worcestershire, starting on 5 April.

And first-team coach Mark Robinson believes Burgess' reliability will be important as they look to improve on last summer's fourth place.

"He does some special things that perhaps go under the radar because he makes it looks simple," he said.

"Statistically he's one of the best performing keepers in the country - right up there in the top bracket for runs and dismissals - and his versatility with his work coming up to the stumps for the seamers gives us an extra advantage.

"His batting is important to us, he scores runs at vital times to win or save us games. I'm pleased he's committed to more time with the club."
