In a post on his Instagram, external, Zaha said: "As I start a new chapter, I want to speak to you Palace fans who mean so much to me.

"We have been through so much together, including 10 years in the Prem. There are loads of amazing memories that will stay in my head forever and also some really tough times along the way, but I'm so proud to have played my part in getting us to the Prem and helping to keep us there.

Odsonne Edouard scored a second-half brace as Crystal Palace beat Watford 2-1 in a pre-season friendly.

The match at Copers Cope saw Roy Hodgson's side claim their second pre-season victory along with the 4-0 win over Crawley Town after losing to Barnet, drawing with Brondby.

Edouard replaced Jean-Philippe Mateta at the break and made an impact from the bench with two composed finished.

The Eagles still have pre-season tests against Millonarios, Sevilla and Lyon before their Premier League opener against Sheffield United on 12 August.

  4. Palace want at least £70m for Reds target Doucourepublished at 09:12 21 July 2023

    Alex Howell, BBC Sport

Crystal Palace would only entertain selling Cheick Doucoure for a minimum fee of £70m.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is set to join Al-Ettifaq for a deal worth about £12m plus add-ons and fellow Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad have registered a £40m bid for Fabinho. The Anfield club would need to recruit a replacement in that area of the pitch and it is believed they have been showing interest in the midfielder.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been rebuilding his midfield this summer and has already brought Alexis MacAllister and Dominic Szoboszlai to Anfield.

Doucoure joined Palace for a fee of £18m last summer and won the club’s player of the year award at the end of last season.

Liverpool have yet to contact Palace directly and the Eagles do not want to sell, but a large fee of between £70m and £80m could see them part with the Mali international.

Declan Rice joined Arsenal for £105m from West Ham and Brighton value Moises Caicedo, who is being targeted by Chelsea, at £100m. Palace believe Doucoure is worth at least £70m in the current market.

  5. 'The missing link' - your ideal players from 20 years agopublished at 16:48 20 July 2023

Andy Johnson scores for Crystal PalaceImage source, Getty Images

We asked you to tell us which player from your club's squad of 20 years ago (the 2003-04 season) would improve the current team.

Here's a selection of your replies:

Mike: It has to be Andy Johnson. We have been struggling for a while now finding a striker who can get us regular goals. With a front man like Johnson, we could really push to get top 10 and then who knows from there.

Simon: Johnson - the only player to score 20 league goals in a Premier League season for us. We are crying out for a striker. With 20 goals from him we would potentially not only finish in the top half, but top six!

Dave: Johnson's electric pace and finishing ability ultimately led Palace to promotion that season. Since he left, Palace haven't had a striker anywhere near the level of him. Glenn Murray was close, but on his day AJ was unplayable.

Gareth: It would have to be Johnson. Electric pace, sharp finisher, great work ethic and not to mention 32 goals in 2003-04 to help Palace win promotion. Would add a real threat to this Palace team. I’m sure Roy would love AJ in his team. The missing link!

  7. 'I am always ready for the club' - Riedewaldpublished at 20:30 15 July 2023

    Jaïro Riedewald

Jairo Riedewald said he is "always ready" to play for Crystal Palace and hopes to be involved more for the Eagles in the upcoming season.

The Dutch defender has featured in both of Palace's recent pre-season games after limited minutes last season.

Speaking after Saturday's 2-2 draw with Brondby, he said: "Pre-season is all about fitness. I’m happy that I could play 90 minutes today.

"Looking at the game and 2-2, it’s not about the result. It’s a good opportunity for us to get back. For some players it’s the first week and they just got back on Monday, To get 45 minutes or even 60 this is good for the team and the fitness."

Riedewald was happy to see the return of Roy Hodgson and hopes to impress the 75-year-old before the new campaign begins.

"I’ve worked with Roy for four seasons already and this is going to be the fifth one," he said.

"A great manager so obviously happy that he came back and happy that I could be on the pitch a bit more this pre-season as well and see how it goes this season and if it can be on the pitch more.

"He knows where I want to play, he knows what I can bring to the team so that helps a lot. But it’s a team sport and he has to make a decision before the 12th of August and we will see what happens but I am always ready for the club."

Speaking about Jesurun Rak-Sakyi after his goal against the Dutch side, he said: "Very exciting. I spoke to him a lot pre-season and obviously he went out on loan and did well. This pre-season he is looking sharp, he’s looking ready and mor mature so I think it was a good loan and hopefully we see him more often this season."

Crystal Palace were held to a 2-2 draw by Dutch outfit Brondby as a number of Eagles regulars returned to the side.

Ebere Eze, Sam Johnstone, Cheick Doucoure and Chris Richards all started, with Marc Guehi and Jordan Ayew featuring in the second half.

Palce twice led through goals from Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Jean-Philippe Mateta, but couldn't hold on to their leads.

Next up for Roy Hodgson's side is a pre-season test against Watford at Selhurst Park, before heading to the United States to face Sevilla and Millonarios FC.

  9. 'A wage-bill drainer' - Palace's worst value signingspublished at 16:50 13 July 2023

    Your views banner

We asked you for the worst value signings Crystal Palace have ever made.

Here is a flavour of your responses:

Simon: Easy. The £20m or so we paid Liverpool for Mamadou Sakho. Probably had the worst technique of any defender I can remember. Was forever caught out of position and tackled with no regard to his own safety. Got injured often (including on his loan spell) and was generally a wage-bill drainer. Possibly our biggest-ever transfer mistake since promotion.

Matt: Has to be Benteke, £32 million for 35 goals in 130-something appearances was not a good investment! Also was lazy a lot of the time and never convincing when in front of goal! Good at clearing corners, though, and a couple of great goals, but never enough!

Steve: Quite a lot to choose from sadly! Ade Akinbiyi was really terrible though. Bought for £2.2m in 2002, a lot of money back then for Palace! Managed a handful of appearances scoring only one goal, and was let go on a free 18 months later. Total shocker.

Danny: The worst-ever Palace signing must surely be Marco Gabbiadini. Sold Ian Wright for 2.5 million I believe, then bought Marco for 1.8 million which was a club record at the time. I think he only stayed one season, which is no surprise as he spent most of his time on the floor. The man couldn't seem to stand up let alone play football.

Adrian: Tomas Brolin. He was severely overweight and unfit when Palace gave him a contract.

  10. Palace fall to defeat in pre-season openerpublished at 08:00 12 July 2023

Crystal Palace opened their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 defeat at National League side Barnet on Tuesday.

Roy Hodgson - confirmed as Palace manager for another season - fielded separate teams in each half and was without any international players, who only returned to training the day before the game.

This allowed an array of academy prospects to get minutes, alongside senior figures like Tyrick Mitchell and Odsonne Edouard.

The Eagles lacked sharpness against a Barnet side already three games into their pre-season and fell to defeat late on when Courtney Senior's superb strike flew past Joe Whitworth.
