Great Britain suffered an overtime 3-2 defeat by Poland in the Ice Hockey Women's World Championship Division 1 Group B tournament in Riga.

Abbie Sylvester and Laura Horwood both scored their first GB goals to give them a 2-0 lead in the first period.

Poland, who won silver in 2023, pulled one back in the next period and equalised with 21 seconds remaining.

That resulted in a three v three overtime period and, after a couple of GB chances, Wiktoria Dziwok scored.

"It was a tough way to lose, but at this level it's all about small margins. We made probably two mistakes all game and they cost us," said Great Britain assistant coach Sean Alderson.

GB, who won their opening game against Italy, face Slovakia in their next match on Wednesday from 10:30 BST, before ties against Slovenia and Latvia.
