BBC Sport Northern Ireland has won 'Best Sport Programme' at the Royal Television Society awards for the 2023 All-Ireland football final.

The production was nominated alongside Sky Sport's coverage of the Ashes and ITV Sport's Rugby World Cup.

The Croke Park showpiece finale between Dublin and Kerry was broadcast on BBC Two network television last July.

Sarah Mulkerrins presented the live broadcast and it was produced by Margaret O'Hare.

Judges said "the passion and joy in this clever production poured through the screen".

In a thrilling final at Croke Park, Dublin defeated reigning champions Kerry by 1-15 to 1-13 on 30 July.

"I've worked here in the UK for 12 or 13 years and I never thought I'd be able to work on this sport, a sport that I grew up on," Mulkerrins said.

"It's really special and the sport, football, hurling and the GAA, holds a very special place in people's hearts, so it is lovely to have been able to work on it and bring it to wider audiences."
