Sky Brown: Teenager is 'super proud' despite failing in Olympic surfing qualifying bid

British teenager Sky Brown says she is "super proud" despite failing to qualify for the Olympic surfing event at the Paris Games.

The 15-year-old missed out after being eliminated from her repechage heat at the World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico.

Brown, who is set to compete in skateboarding, was hoping to become the first British athlete in more than a century to compete in two different sports at the same summer Olympics.

"I enjoyed every moment," she said.

"It is was pretty tough, but I've learned so much. I will keep it with me forever.

"I'm definitely super proud. I made it quite far. I wish I could have gone a little further but that is part of it, sometimes you've got to lose."

Brown, who has been surfing since she was four years old, says she has already set her sights on qualifying for the surfing event at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.

"I wish I could have done it in Paris, but LA is my home," added Brown, who lives in California with her Japanese mother and British father.

"I've learned a lot so, yeah, bring it on in LA."

Brown made history as a 13-year-old at the Tokyo Games by becoming Team GB's youngest medallist by winning bronze in skateboarding.

She technically has not qualified for the Olympic skateboarding yet, though she is ranked third in the world and won the world title in 2023. She needs to be in the top 20 in June to be selected.
