Super League: London Broncos 4-58 Warrington Wolves: Two hat-tricks help Wire return to top spot

Josh Thewlis and Matt Dufty scored hat-tricks as Warrington demolished hapless London Broncos to go top.

Adam Holroyd's first Super League tries began the rout, with James Harrison and Stefan Ratchford also on the scoresheet.

Wire full-back Ratchford reeled off eight successive kicks to set a Super League record of 40 in a row.

Hakim Miloudi's try was the only consolation for London, who are without a point since their top-flight return.

London's most recent Super League success against Warrington came in 2012 - and any hopes of changing that statistic were swept away as the visitors raced into an 18-point lead inside the opening 15 minutes.

The Broncos had no answer to Warrington's superior speed and physical strength and Paul Vaughan's drive found teenager Holroyd for the opening score, before half-back Leon Hayes punched a hole through the middle and set up Thewlis to go over.

Connor Wrench supplied the assist for Holroyd's second score, with London barely venturing into their opponents' half - although they did get on the scoresheet from their first genuine attack.

With Warrington allowing their intensity levels to slip, the ball was worked out to the left and Miloudi sprinted to the corner, but the Frenchman was unable to add the extras from a tricky angle.

Another Miloudi kick actually led to Wolves' fourth try before half-time, with the ball falling neatly for full-back Dufty to collect, evade the first tackle and race in unopposed from 80 metres.

Trailing by 20 points, the home side made a horrendous start to the second half, again conceding a flurry of tries. The first came within seconds as they surrendered possession and presented Thewlis with an easy score.

Joe Bullock, back in the Warrington side following his loan spell at Hull, was tackled just short of the line and Dufty took over to register their sixth try before Thewlis completed his hat-trick.

Harrison then broke clear for number eight and Ratchford's conversion took his sequence of successes from the tee beyond the previous Super League record, set by Leeds Rhinos' Rhyse Martin.

Ratchford pulled his next attempt wide, after Dufty had added his third try to bring up Wolves' half-century - but the 35-year-old finished the afternoon on a high note with a ninth conversion.

London Broncos director of rugby Mike Eccles said:

"In areas it was probably the worst we've been and they (Warrington) were really good. I think that was probably the worst performance that we've had.

"It's the physicality which we are struggling with and size, being able to contain them. We're being compromised a lot at the minute."

Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess told BBC Radio Merseyside:

"I think we did the basics really well, especially early in the game. The first 10-15 minutes were really clinical and then we just got into a good rhythm.

"I was happy with the team, the amount of players we had missing in really key positions - everyone came to do their job. We've got some players that can find space and I thought we took all our chances."

[On Ratchford's kicking record]

"It's a pretty exceptional record. I never said anything about it pre-game and Stef would have said nothing, he never makes it about himself - he's just a great team player.

"Everyone's right behind him, he's a big part of the club and he's been here for a long time. I think he was pretty disappointed with the one he missed, it's not like Stef - he's a great kicker and he practises very hard."
