World Triathlon Indoor Cup: Georgia Taylor-Brown finishes second in Lievin

British triathlete Georgia Taylor-Brown won the silver medal at the inaugural indoor World Cup in a thrilling sprint finish.

Taylor-Brown, the 2020 outdoor world champion, was beaten to gold by Germany's Laura Lindemann in a three-way race to the line in Lievin, France.

American Gwen Jorgensen was third with all three women recording an official time of 10 minutes and 19 seconds.

The indoor event sees triathletes take on a 150m swim, 3km bike and 1km run.

A track surrounds a 25m pool, with the bike leg taking place on the outer lanes of the track before the run on the inner lanes.

"I am really happy. I don't feel super run fit at the moment but I am getting there and it was really exciting," said Taylor-Brown.

"The heats were a shock and it really hurt my throat because it's such a dry air in here, but everyone was the same.

"And the finals were really hard because it was busier and more compact on the bike, and the run was super-fast."

Taylor-Brown's British team-mate Jessica Fullager finished 12th in the women's final, but a third Briton, Vicky Holland - the 2016 Olympic bronze medallist - was earlier disqualified for not serving a penalty during her heat, which she had won.

The men's race was won by Norway's Vetle Bergsvik Thorn, with GB's Sam Dickson finishing seventh.
