About Procurement

BBC Procurement is responsible for establishing all supplier relationships for goods and services

BBC Procurement is responsible for establishing all supplier relationships for goods and services. This covers £1.4 billion of external spend each year across the whole of the BBC.

Led by Jim Hemmington, Director of Procurement, the department is responsible for setting the BBC's procurement and outsourcing strategies. We work across the entire BBC to establish best practice in buying goods and services.

Our teams work with suppliers to deliver the best level of service and value for money to support the BBC's programme making and content creation. This ranges from working with small and local suppliers through to organisations that have the scale to support the BBC's key national and strategic contracts. We do this by managing our contracts robustly and fairly, working with our suppliers to drive innovation and efficiencies in service delivery to reduce costs. We also work hard to ensure our payment processes are simple and that suppliers are paid promptly.

World class procurement

The BBC was the first ever organisation to be accredited to the Global Sourcing Standard. The GSA Council is comprised of senior industry experts covering the full spectrum of the sourcing industry, who have been duly elected by the membership to steer and shape the strategic focus of the sourcing industry.

The BBC’s Procurement team was the first media and first public sector team to be awarded the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Corporate Partnership Programme Gold Accreditation.
