Sakshi Malik: India’s Olympic medal winner quits wrestling

Sakshi Malik, who won an Olympic bronze medal in wrestling in 2016, has announced her retirement from the sport.

She announced the decision at a press conference held by some of India's top wrestlers after the election of their federation's new chief.

Sanjay Singh was elected the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Thursday after a landslide victory.

Mr Singh is reportedly a close aide of WFI's former chief, Brij Bhushan Singh, an MP from the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who has been accused of sexually harassing female wrestlers. Mr Singh denies the allegations.

"We slept for 40 days on the road.. if Brij Bhushan Singh's business partner and close aide is elected as the president of WFI, I quit wrestling," Ms Malik told the media, breaking down in tears.
