The 'dummy trees' used as WW1 observation posts

Leon Underwood, a British artist known for his sculptures and paintings, served a surprising role in World War One. As part of the Royal Engineers Camouflage Section, he designed artificial trees to disguise soldiers on the front lines.

In War Art with Eddie Redmayne, the Oscar-winning actor visits artists’ studios, museums and battlefields to uncover various artforms inspired by war and conflict.
