The paternity of an iconic Roman pasta is being challenged

Food expert Alberto Grandi claims that pasta carbonara, the most iconic Roman dish, is actually American. American soldiers - who stayed in Italy right after World War II - wanted eggs and bacon in their pasta. This idea is of course causing a stir, even more so, as Italy just put forward its food as a candidate for the Unesco Intangible Heritage List. Elisabetta Abrami went to the traditional restaurant Perilli in the heart of Rome to ask for their opinion and see how to make an authentic carbonara.
