What are 'zombie fires' and why they pose a risk for Canada

So-called 'zombie fires' have been burning under the thick layers of snow across parts of Canada at an unprecedented rate.

These flameless smoulders naturally die out before spring arrives, but a combination of factors have raised fears that they could become fully-fledged wildfires come the warmer months.
