James Wade out of hospital after withdrawing from European Open

England's world number five James Wade is at home after leaving hospital in Germany following his withdrawal from the European Open.

He had tests after suffering symptoms including a racing heart, high blood pressure, nausea and dizziness.

Wade, 39, pulled out before his semi-final against Dimitri van den Bergh and was taken to a hospital in Leverkusen on the advice of paramedics.

He will not play in the Premier League event in Sheffield on Thursday.

"I'd like to thank all the medical staff for their care over the past few days and also to all the fans around the world who have sent messages of support," said Wade.

"Now that I'm home, I'll be taking time to recover fully before returning to playing when the time is right."

His wife Samantha, who is expecting their second child, was unable to visit because she was looking after their son Arthur.

"It was very worrying Sunday into Monday night and it is horrible to think of James there by himself when he has been so poorly," she said before he was discharged.

Wade, from Aldershot, is a four-time PDC World Darts Championship semi-finalist and third in this season's Premier League standings.

"James is desperate to make sure he doesn't let anyone down and is already talking about returning to competitive action for people who have bought tickets," said Samantha.

"Whilst that is in his nature, I am sure everyone will agree that him making a full recovery is the most important thing and we will be taking it day by day."

Wade released a statement on social media on Wednesday in which said he felt "extremely unwell" during the European Open.
