England head coach Jon Lewis on Sky Sports:"Nat Sciver-Brunt played brilliantly. It was a very well-calculated partnership [between herself and Bouchier] and very controlled.

"Someone asked me during the T20 series what we would miss about Nat Sciver-Brunt and it was just that, the control and calmness in the middle that settles everyone else around her.

"We have been working really hard with Charlie [Dean] on her consistency and her execution and she is a beautiful off-spin bowler. We just want that more often and I don't think there's another off-spinner in the world that can do it as well as she does when it comes out right."

England head coach Jon Lewis on Sky Sports: "What's exciting about this series, even the T20s that we lost, is that we learned a lot about our cricketers that are just on the outside of our best XI and there is some really exciting talent in this country.

"What that does for the dressing room is make the older players think, OK, well that's what is coming below me and this is what I need to do.

"With Lauren Filer, she was working in Tesco this time last year. This is her first proper year of professional cricket, let alone international cricket. She has worked so hard and is improving very fast.

"She is not the finished article by any means, but there is a lot more to come."

That Ashes series did take a lot out of England and you can see that.

That's why players have been rested because there is so much cricket to be played and they need that opportunity to recharge.

And it has allowed us to see what Maia Bouchier, Lauren Filer and Mahika Gaur could do, and they don't look out of place in international cricket at all.

England's player of the match, and player of the summer, Nat Sciver-Brunt: "I'm really happy to have batted the way I did and continue that form I had against Australia.

"When we play so much cricket, it's just about making sure the body and mind are right and that's what I did during my break [from the T20 series]. I was definitely fully switched on by the time it came to these games.

"The plan is to be back bowling by the India series in December. The decision not to bowl post-Ashes was just about giving the body a rest more than anything but I'm looking forward to getting back into it. I want to influence games in all departments.

"It's been brilliant to see the young players come in and make such an impact in their first outings. Lauren Filer's pace is so exciting and we want to harness that as much as possible."

Sri Lanka were out of the game as soon as England's total was set.

So it is very hard to come up with a plan when you know that. But they did show promising signs, Hasini Perera played really nicely, but they fell apart to Charlie Dean.

They can't keep getting caught in two minds. Scoreboard pressure got to them, completely.

The bowling and batting haven't fired at the same time, which is what they did so well in the T20s.

But it is still a very positive tour for them. None of us expected that T20 result.

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu: "Tough conditions and tough day the office against the number two team in the world. We won in the T20s but not in the ODIs. We need to impove our batting, shot selection and be patient in this format. We can't blame the conditions and have to be fearless every time.

"We have a few youngsters and our setup is really good. I hope we can be a good team in the future. The youngsters improve a lot and hope they become good cricketers in the future. Personally, I love the pressure and handle that in a fearless way. I enjoy my time in the middle every time."

It feels like a game-changing summer for England women's cricket. There has been a shift in momentum and it all came from that first T20 win in the Ashes.

After that, they competed in every game in the rest of that series. It was brilliant to see.

We have never questioned England's skill level, it was just whether they could apply it for long periods of time against Australia and they did.

They have used this Sri Lanka series to blood new players and it has been great to see them stand up.

No, they would not have expected to lose the T20 series but I don't think that was the worst thing for them because it allows them to reset and teaches them that they can't be complacent.

England's player of the series Lauren Filer, who finished with eight wickets in the three matches, said: "It's been a whirlwind of summer and nice to finish it off here today. I think using the hardness of the new ball, bowling attacking lines and getting the batters driving is something I've added to my armoury.

"Mahika Gaur is a great bowler and offers left arm and skill. It's nice to have someone at the other end tying the runs up. Just bowling quick for me is not enough so I'm working on variations and keep improving."

It is frightening how good Nat Sciver-Brunt is.

But it's just what we have come to expect from her, and she makes it look so easy.

At one point, every ball seemed to go for four and Sri Lanka had no answer. She scores all around the ground and she is brilliant at running between the wickets, too.

It has come unstuck in the ODIs.

Coming into the series generally, it was about trying to compete with England so we did expect a bit more from them and a bit more resilience.

There are a lot of areas to work on but they are taking a lot of positives away from this tour because it is all about improving, and they are definitely doing that.

They need to be better athletes, they need to be fitter and that will help them express their skills better and for longer.

The batting is organised, they are very technically correct, but it's the confidence to find ways of getting on top of the bowling.
