There will be a battle of the Browns in one Bristol City Council ward at the local elections next week on Thursday, May 2. Three members of the same household are standing for the Conservatives in Hengrove & Whitchurch Park, while one of the three Lib Dem incumbents defending their seat is also a Brown.

Married couple Nigel and Karen Brown and their son Adam Brown have been chosen to contest the three available seats in the ward. The roles are currently held by Lib Dems Andrew Brown, Sarah Classick and Tim Kent who are all on the ballot paper again hoping for another term.

Also in the race to be elected are Greens Andrew Bradbury, Paul Grover and Georgia Nelson, Labour ’s Greg Dowling, Brandon Gage and Ajmal Miah, and Neil Norton for the Social Democratic Party. All 70 seats across 34 wards are up for grabs at the polls, with the council moving from a mayoral model to a committee system from May 3 following a referendum to scrap a directly elected mayor.
