A mysterious spillage spotted in a South Gloucestershire nature reserve turned part of the stream red. Residents spotted the red diesel at Three Brooks Nature Reserve over the weekend but the cause of the spill is not yet clear.

The nature reserve in Bradley Stoke has been subject to a number of pollution incidents in the last few years. These include blocked sewers infecting the water and a previous oil spill back in 2018.

One passer-by said the latest substance had been spilled between Bradley Stoke Way and the Three Brooks Lake. It is unclear where the leak has come from.

The Environment Agency (EA) has confirmed that it received reports over the weekend regarding this incident. Investigations are still ongoing to determine where the spill has come from.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “We had a number of reports from members of the public at the weekend about this diesel spill. Team members attended the site to take samples and put out a boom to prevent the spill spreading further.

“We are investigating to try to trace the source of the spill. Anyone who sees suspected pollution incidents is asked to call our helpline on 0800 80 70 60.”
