Pensioners in Bristol can get up to 20 per cent off their water bill with Bristol Water. As the cost of living crisis persists, leaving many people struggling to pay for essentials, there are a number of Government schemes to help older people and folks on a low income pay their bills - millions of pensioners benefited from the Winter Fuel Payment over the last few months.

As well as support from the UK Government and the local councils, some people in Bristol may be able to claim a discount on their water bill, or receive help with payments. This includes people claiming benefits, people who are behind on their payments, and those who need short term help.

Older people who receive Pension Credit, or whose only income is their State Pension, could get around 20 percent off their water bill. With the average water bill in Bristol set to cost £222 in 2024/25, this could be a saving of just under £45.

To apply, you will need to upload your Bristol Water customer number, your date of birth and evidence to support your claim - if you receive Pension Credit, you will need to upload proof of this - to the Bristol Water website. In a notice on X, formerly known as Twitter, Bristol Water said: "If you receive Pension Credit or if your state pension is your only income, we can offer a bill discount of around 20 per cent."

If you think you might be eligible for Pension Credit, it is worth checking because claimants receive an extra £218.15 (if single) or £332.95 (if in a relationship) per week. It also enables low income pensioners access to even more support than just the weekly allowances.
