Bargain shoppers will have more reasons to rejoice as B&M plans to open six new UK locations over the coming weeks. Popular chains have been closing multiple branches, with the likes of Wilko shutting its doors for good.

But B&M is bucking the trend and is actually launching new shops. Over the first two months of 2024, shoppers will see the chain's beloved orange and blue logo appear on their high streets. Two are set to open in early January, while the last stores will launch in February, the Sun reports.

The first two sites will open in Porthmadog in Wales on January 18 and in Washington in Sunderland on January 26 - both of these sites will be former Wilko stores. The February openings are also believed to be in former Wilko stores.

However, the exact locations for these new stores have not been confirmed by the retailer. The February openings will be in Harrow on February 10, in Arnold on February 21, in Thamesmead on February 22, and in Beaumont Lays on February 23.

Back in May, B&M announced plans to open 30 new stores in the UK over the next year, including relocations of older sites and in September B&M agreed to buy up to 51 former Wilko stores after the retailer fell into administration as part of £13million deal. At the time, the chain did not reveal which former Wilko stores it had purchased.

It comes after the retailer closed a handful of older sites, including the one in Broadwalk Shopping Centre in Bristol on March 29. Chief executive Alejandro Russo said: "The 2023 financial year has been another year of strong underlying progress for B&M and the long-term future looks very positive.

"It has also been a year of planned management transition. Simon Arora has stepped down after 19 years of leading this business and we thank him and wish him well for the future."
