There's nothing quite like cosying up in bed with a good book, a candle scenting the room with those calming essential oils and you dressed - and snuggled up - in your favourite set of pyjamas. Recently, my social media has been buzzing with videos of pyjama-loving people traipsing to the supermarket Sainsbury's - yes, Sainsbury's - and raving about their bold, bright and pretty beautiful nightwear range from their fashion department Tu. And so, naturally, as a fellow PJ lover, it was necessary to make my way to my nearest Sainsbury's to see what was in store to see what the fuss was all about.
Well, let me just preface this by saying I'm impressed my willpower withstood the desire to walk out with the entire collection because it was stunning.
The PJ sets - made up of long-sleeved shirts and trousers, short sets and nighties - weren't plain or a bit meh, as some supermarket PJs can be. They were covered in eye-catching designs that featured bright pops of colour in stripes, spots, florals, and even dogs printed on.
Plus, they weren't made from flimsy, cheap quality feeling material either - they were soft, floaty and pretty luxurious for their twenty-something price tag, reports The Mirror.
With my local Sainsbury's only being able to stock so much - and, let me remind you these pyjama sets went viral on the likes of TikTok at the start of the year - some of the designs I had my eye on that were available on the website weren't there, meaning I couldn't get a feel of what it was like in real life. But that just goes to show how popular they have been.
These designs included the Bright Stripe Cotton Traditional Pyjamas (£20) that featured pastel colours like pinks, yellows, greens and blues, the Bright Floral Print Traditional Pyjamas (£18) with similar spring vibes, the Yellow Stripe Traditional Pyjamas (£20), the Bright Tiger Palm Mini Me Pyjamas with Scrunchie (£20) and the Blue Ikat Dye Woven Pyjamas (£22). That or the PJs were there but not in my size (sob).
Thankfully though, despite the small-ish size of my Sainsbury's, I managed to get my hands on a few gorgeous sets to try on and, well, I fell in love.
Entering Sainsbury's Tu section, I had my heart set on the brightest of PJs and I was delighted to find the last set of the Abstract Bright Stripe Traditional Pyjamas, £20. These PJs featured a stunning design finished with patchwork-style stripes in a series of yellows, greens, blues, pinks, oranges and looked so snazzy that I'd even go as far as to say I'd leave the house in them. They're a PJ set I wouldn't mind being caught in by the postman!
Sadly, they weren't in my size but that didn't stop me trying them on. Featuring a long-sleeved shirt and a trouser, what struck me was how soft the material was. It wasn't a softness that resembled velvet or fur, but it was a softness that made the pyjamas floaty and effortlessly glide over your body.
The viscose material was also lovely and super light weight, making them a great set of PJs coming into spring and summer but also the longer length means they work in the colder months too - under a good duvet, of course.
As soon as I got home, I went straight to the Tu website to bag myself a pair in my size because I fell in love. Yes, with pyjamas.
The next set I tried on was equally as soft and supple but featured a slightly more subtle design in a white and lilac and had a short-sleeved shirt and longer trousers.
The floral pattern on the Lilac Floral Traditional Pyjamas, £20, was intricate and could easily be mistaken as a two-piece for brunch, if it didn't have the lilac piping on the bottom of the trousers that scream 'PJs'.
Just like the abstract ones. made from the same material, these jimjams were floaty, comfy and just lush. I can see these being worn all summer long.
You can't go wrong with a good pair of jersey pyjamas and these green tropical leaf ones, £11 and £7, made from cotton and modal, are cute and cosy. The sage green colour is elegant and the white leaf design is super classy. With a high neck and oversized fit, the t-shirt and trousers ensemble is the perfect set for lounging around the house in on a Saturday morning, cosying up to watch your favourite film at night and keeping you cool in the warmer months.
They can be purchased separately too so if you just want the top or the trousers, you can mix and match.
While the last set I tried on is labelled as Mothers Day Day Dream Pyjamas, £24, I would totally wear these all year round - and I'm not a mum. Consisting of a bright blue sweatshirt that has the slogan 'day dream' stitched onto the chest and a pair of striped trouser bottoms with pink flowers dotted about them, this set is just lovely. Great if you're extra cold in bed and need something a bit thicker than a t-shirt to sleep in or if you want to throw on something easy to make your coffee in the morning.
Inside the sweater, the fabric is really soft on your skin while the bottoms are light, airy and just really comfortable. As a 5'6 woman, they come to my ankles so aren't grazing the floor like some of the other sets, which is great if that's your preference.
If you're more of a nightie wearer, the shop has an abundance of gorgeous night dresses that are really pretty and range from spaghetti strap midi slips to shirt dresses. The slipper collection is just gorgeous, too, and features patterns as bold as its pyjamas - like these fluffy mules that are decorated in pink hearts and cost only £9. Or there's these floral print cosy slipper socks, for £6.
Now of course, there are so many other shops from which you can get the most stylish and cosiest of pyjamas and if you're after something a little different to Sainsbury's collection, H&M has a lovely range of sleepwear including this blue striped pyjama shirt and bottoms set which also comes in white, pink and a lighter blue, and costs £32.99, or an adorable strawberry print shorts and tee set for £12.99.
Want a bit of a treat? Boux Avenue's PJ sets are also top quality and really pretty, like this ribbed modal pyjama top and trousers in pink or olive green - respectively costing £28 and £32.99. This lovely lip print pyjama set in black is more fitted, if you prefer that style, and is on sale for £25 from £35.
