The 'best' flight comparison website to use to get cut-price deals has been named, but the announcement comes from a warning by customers. Brits love their holidays, with millions heading off each year with everyone looking to bag a bargain.

With many price comparison websites looking for your custom, it can be hard to know which one to choose. Luckily, consumer group Which? has released its rankings of the cheapest sites to use when booking flights.

While Opodo was found to offer the cheapest airfares more times than any other site, Which? does not recommend you use it. Many customers claim the site offers poor customer service and some complained they unwittingly signed up to the subscription service while booking a flight through Opodo.

Expedia 0 16

Despite getting the worst price rating, Expedia got the best score for customer experience. Which? says that this is likely due to its user-friendly interface and transparency regarding fees.

However, it's hard to look past the fact Expedia found the most expensive fares on 16 routes in 30 Which? used to check the providers. This shortfall is likely due to Expedia not including flights from major low-cost carriers like Wizz Air and Ryanair.

Instead, Which? recommends using the likes of Google Flights, Skyscanner and Kayak amongst others to get the best flight deals. Which? said: "You'll need to use more than one comparison site to find cheap flights and hotels."

In its research, Which? found that Google Flights was one of the best sites when it came to user experience and its Explore tool is a nifty way of saving cash. In one example, it found a return journey to Tokyo for £822 less than Expedia.

Skyscanner is also a very useful tool if your holiday plans are flexible, as it displays flights on a calendar followed by the price. It can also be used to book hotels, in research Skyscanner found the best price 11 times in 30.
