A neighbourhood on the outskirts of Bristol is set to get a new B&M store. It has been announced that the discount retailer will be opening at the Kings Chase Shopping Centre in Kingswood, place of the former Wilko store.

The shop in the South Gloucestershire town's centre was among the many which shut last year, closing for the final time on October 3. It has been empty since.

But now, it has been announced that B&M will be opening in its place. No date has yet been announced for yet the store, which will be the seventh in the city will open.

Taking to Facebook, Kings Chase Shopping Centre said: “We're thrilled to announce that the former Wilko unit at Kings Chase will be transformed into a B&M store very soon!

"It will be a wonderful addition and we're looking forward to welcoming them to the centre. Kings Chase will once again be fully occupied. Keep an eye out for upcoming opening dates.”

Last year Kingswood shoppers spoke to Bristol Live about how the loss of Wilko, a key anchor store in the shopping centre, would be a "huge loss" for the town centre. The centre itself is set to get a £5.5million upgrade as part of a £25million masterplan for the town, but some people have questioned the pace of improvements almost two years since that plan was unveiled.

However, the arrival of B&M could be a big draw for shoppers. In response to the Kings Chase announcement, one fan wrote on Facebook: "Literally so happy but my wages wont be." Another added: "Something decent at last."
