Taylor Swift is born in West Reading, Pennsylvania.
The global pop and country sensation first gained popularity in 2006, and as of December 2019 she had sold more than 37 million albums in the United States alone.

The Clash releases its breakthrough album, London Calling.
This was the British punk rock band’s third album, uniquely influenced by reggae and rhythm and blues, and it yielded their first American hit single.

Ludwig van Beethoven, whose exact birth date is not known, is baptized.
Widely regarded as the greatest composer who ever lived, Beethoven is credited with raising instrumental music, which had before been ranked below literature and painting, to the highest plane of art.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is first performed.
Following its premier in St. Petersburg, the ballet was panned as a failure, but it has since become the most frequently performed of all ballets, often presented at Christmastime.
